Good book. Good to learn more about the mother and father of the Grayson boys. I think I would read a book that followed the family from the end of this book to the beginning of book 1. But I still think this story should have come first. Then how they grew up and became so successful and then Radford war years up to the beginning of book 1. I guess it's OK in this order, as the first story didn't start as a series. I would have read them chronologically if given the information that this book was really a prequel. Whatever. It's worth keeping and maybe re-reading later. Writing was stronger, timed well, but still some typos and missing/extra words that an AR should have got. It seems like these errors in all the books fall during the love scenes.Product details

I enjoyed this story and found that the author does a good job conveying the emotional turmoil that the main character is experiencing. There are a lot of minor grammatical errors and typos, like extra words or missing words. That is more the fault of the editor than the writer, but a great romance with atypical main characters and very heart wrenching and heart warming at times. I cried while reading parts of it.
What a sweet story! At first though, Nancy really got on my nerves when she refused to get back on the train. I didn't start out liking her very much but I changed my mind completely. She was a perfect partner for Hal. You really understand how Radford, Kyle, Duke and Boyd grew up with such honor, character and integrity. Their parents were such good role models. All the Grayson books are very heartwarming and I wish there were many more waiting for me to read!
The very first novel I read by Wendy was stellar, and then when I started into this Grayson Brothers series, I was a bit surprised by the amount of grammar (esp punctuation) issues involved. I don't know what happened, but while the story lines are true to her form and have a lot of historical value and personal interest to them, the writing itself becomes sloppy and not nearly as cared for as her characters and their personal stories seem to be to the author.
For me, this is a bad idea because while I love a good Romance in a romance novel, mostly clean, takes its time developing, realistic to a point... it is just as difficult for me to ignore GPS issues.
Clean up the whole thing, and you've got another Lisa Kleypas in the works.
This is the first time I have ever read one of Ms. Lindstron's books. And this was the prefect book to read first since it is the prequel to the Greyson Brothers's series. Now when I read the rest of the series, having a bit of the back story will help. Although each book is a stand alone book.
The story starts off with Hal burying his brother, John, who was his partner in a small sawmill after an accident. His brother had been delivering a load of wood prior to going to the train station to meet his mail order bride. Neither brother has a penny to spare since they are working to build up their business and any money they have is going right back into the business. Yet John has decided he needs to have a wife. Hal decides that he will tell his brother's mail order bride that she has to return back to her home town and he has scrambled to find the money to purchase her the return ticket.
Hal has never met a strong willed woman like Nancy before. She is escaping an arranged marriage by her father and thinks that taking a chance on a marriage with a stranger is a better choice.
Nancy manages to keep Hal talking by saying no and arguing why she needs to stay that she misses the train. This is the start of the story and how both Hal and Nancy fall in love while observing the social mores of the time. There is something to be said for old fashioned social mores.
This is a lovely read so pick yourself a cup of tea after finding a quiet hour or two and pick a comfy spot to read this lovely intro to a new series.
This is a prequel to books I have already read and loved. The only negative to that is that the whole time I was reading it, I was aware that Hal died before the other books started, and that made me sad. That is silly, I know. After all, knowing how the love story began does not require believing that the couple will die at the exact same second. I love all the Grayson books, and this was a great addition. The character development was great as always. The characters grew as individuals and it was obvious that the love between them grew slowly, and while it included passion, it was not based on just lust. In too many books I read, the couples decide they love each other based on their looks. I believe in attraction at first sight, but true love can only be based on really knowing who the other person truly is. Nancy started out as a sixteen year old who made rash decisions without thinking things through. By the end of the book, she was able to realize that she had to bear the responsibility for her decisions. I enjoy a book where conflict is caused by the human weaknesses of the couple, not just conflicts that are just thrown in to keep the couple apart. Early on, I thought that Nancy's father was going to be a villain and try to divide them. The way it was handled was not only more realistic, but more interesting. I am now looking forward to the next book, but I'll probably need a week or two before I'm ready for reading about Nancy moving on.
