There are No Dragons...Are There?
Computers run on magic, unicorns roam the city parks as bicyclists and joggers pass by, and you might bump into an elf as you walk to the corner coffee shop. Welcome to the New Realms, where sword & sorcery exist alongside modern technology - the result of the Great Collision. Magic is mundane, and mythical creatures are commonplace.
Underneath the placid calm, though, immortal enemies plot the ruination of this new world. Can the Necromancers be stopped? Or will chaos and destruction once again reign?

I read such good reviews of this book, but it was just aweful. A boring, predictable story with lackluster characters. I'm mad that I thought the set of them would be the better purchase... Ugh, should have read the sample first. So bad. I kept hoping it would get better, but no. Had to force myself to even make it halfway through, and even that was with skipping parts.Product details

Entwined Realms Volume One A Collection of the First Four Stories of the Entwined Realms edition by Danielle Monsch Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
I've read a couple of stories by this author that give readers a twist on fairytales so was quite keen to read a totally unique story from her set in what could be described as a post apocalyptic world and wow does ths author deliver!
This starts quite literally by throwing the reader into the action as the human world we know and the magical realm have collided and all kinds of nasties are spilling out onto the streets. Into this melei we meet Jack Miller a police detective who is struggling to get across town to his heavily pregnant wife. Unfortunately with all the mayhem the power goes out and Jacks beloved wife does not survive but their baby does and that's where the story truly begins .
.Nearly twenty six years later Larissa is a grown woman struggling to assert her independence whilst surviving in this new world . One night she leaves her home to meet her father when she is attacked by creatures that should be magically barred from the human city but to her immense surprise a Gargoyle comes to her aid and for Larissa it's a crash course into a world that's keeping many secrets!
Terak is the leader of his clan but the mighty Oracle has declared he should keep a close watch on the human known as Larissa Miller. He cannot see why she would be so important but there's something about the little human female that calls to him. Secretly guarding her he sees her being attacked by zombies which should be impossible but somethings not right and the fierce Terak is not about to let anyone hurt the female who he increasingly feels should be his!
So this starts out with this full length story and then the author/ publisher treats us to short novellas that help flesh out this storyline. Whilst the first story is the beginning of Larissa and Teraks relationship the second is almost an epilogue really as poor Terak gets to meet Larssas family and what a very protective lot they are! I'm not always convinced by Larissa if honest as she seems a little too sheltered but it's a sweet romance that builds up gradually and that makes it far more believable. What I do like is meeting new characters in The Cage King as that really helps expand the world building and gives much more insight into the workings of those who seek to protect humanity known as the Guild.
So Gargoyles, zombies, werewolves and even vampires! There's just about every conceivable type of paranormal creature imaginable in this one volume! The author has created a very different idea of necromancy too with a strong connection to vampires and that brings me neatly to the final short story. It's more of a scene really or a teaser if you will as we learn more about the ( very,) interesting dynamics between Guild member Fallon and the irrepressible vampire Reign! O my such a lot going on and hopefully more to come soon!
Having previously read the first three books in this collection only the very brief 'The Rooftop' was new to me, I've posted my individual reviews below and as you can see I read them out of order which is not something I'd recommend, I didn't realise until I'd started 'The Cage King' and was throughly confused that maybe I was missing something, I know, I know I should have checked and normally I would have but, well we all make mistakes.
Stone Guardian 4 stars
Ok, now this makes so much more sense and I wish I'd read this first.
I downloaded 'The Cage King' and read it not realising it wasn't a first in series, I know, I know I should have checked but in my defence it just said novella, anyway I understand now.
Twenty-six years ago the worlds collided the human realm and the magic realm merged and chaos ensued as orcs, werewolves and, was that a dragon? converged on our streets. In the middle of all this Larissa Miller is born and now the Oracle has given Terak, the clan leader of the gargoyles the task of watching her for three months. All Terak knows is that's she's important to his clan and the more he watches her the more he becomes attracted to her but it would appear there's something about Larissa that other people want as well, powerful people and she's attacked by zombies in a protected zone which should never happen, what's going on and what's so special about Larissa.
Firstly I loved Terak, I mean what's not to love he's a gargoyle and yes I used to watch the Disney cartoon with my kids and loved it.
I liked the whole concept of this book and the amazing characters and apart from one truly stupid and I do mean stupid moment I loved Larissa, this is a woman who knows herself, she's intelligent and apart from her one 'moment' she was fantastic, she's not one of those ditzy women so many authors write about who throw themselves in danger at every opportunity and forever make the wrong decisions, she was amazing (well most of the time) and refreshing to read.
I'm intrigued by Fallon and I can't wait for her book if she's what I suspect then it should be a great read.
I loved this book I'm giving 4.5 stars since Larissa's 'moment' took a little of the shine off for me but ultimately it's a really entertaining fantasy read.
Stone embrace 4 stars
This is a short update on Larissa and Terak from 'Stone Guardian' and since I loved that book this is icing on the cake. In Stone Guardian we left Larissa and Terak as they were preparing to meet with her father this book covers that meeting and the aftermath.
Wonderful, just can't get enough of these two hope they're in the books that follow.
The Cage King 3.5 stars
I didn't realise when I originally downloaded this book that it wasn't the first book in the series, with hindsight I should have done an author check but I didn't and so I struggled at first with this, not sure if it was me or the book, I just couldn't seem to get into it and just when I was at the point of giving up I found that I'd actually started to enjoy it and it didn't really matter that I didn't fully understand where they were and who half the characters were.
Nalah and Esh were childhood friends and so much more but Nalah blamed Esh for the death of her brother and disappeared from his life for five years, she's been with the Guild learning how to use her gift but now the Guild need Esh and Nalah for a job so Nalah finds herself back in his life.
Esh is the Cage King, he's undefeated and the a Guild need him to get access to the Cage Match in the New Realms, Nalah tries to convince herself it's just an assignment but she knows better and Esh knows exactly what he wants, Nalah back where she belongs.
I'm giving 3.5 stars because once I'd got settled into it I loved it and I've already downloaded 'Stone Guardian' to read next, I nearly gave 3 stars because the beginning confused me but then I figured it was my fault I read it out of order and since it annoys me when authors spend a huge portion of their second book recapping the first I'd no room to complain.
The Rooftop 3 stars
This is a taster of what's to come, Fallon is intriguing and like I mentioned in my review of 'Stone a Guardian' if she's what I suspect then her book will be amazing.
'The Rooftop' is incredibly short and it consists of rooftop meetings between Fallon and Reign, the 3 stars is a reflection of the length not the quality.
ARC provided by NetGalley for an honest review.
This collection was provided by NetGalley and while I'd previously read 'Stone Guardian' 'Stone Embrace' and 'Cage King' the taster 'The Rooftop' was new to me.
I love the whole first part of the series rolled into one - I can't wait for more!
Great stories, fun writing. This is a collection that includes the first novel and a few shorter stories, saves money over buying individually but if you own the included already don't need.
I read such good reviews of this book, but it was just aweful. A boring, predictable story with lackluster characters. I'm mad that I thought the set of them would be the better purchase... Ugh, should have read the sample first. So bad. I kept hoping it would get better, but no. Had to force myself to even make it halfway through, and even that was with skipping parts.
